• Fear is a tool of control. It is deliberately used by some religious leaders, institutions, political groups or ideological movements to strengthen dogma. When fear is constantly stoked, ideological systems become entrenched and unquestionable. The “furnace” represents how fear intensifies belief systems, while the “fortress of the mind” implies a situation whereby people are mentally fortified against criticism, dissent, or alternative perspectives. Fear becomes the "engine that sustains ideological power".

• Fear is a catalyst for ideological entrenchment. It is what drives people to cleave to rigid beliefs. In other words, fear is the trigger for cognitive defense. It doesn’t just motivate belief, it locks the mind into defensive thinking. Most often, when people feel afraid, they cling to rigid beliefs (dogma), and over time, these beliefs harden into an ideology that functions like a "mental fortress", seemingly protecting them from new knowledge, critical thinking, questioning, doubt, uncertainty, or conflicting idea or information.
